Commissioners discussed whether that money should instead be routed to nonprofits addressing substance-use issues; the chair noted there is a limited balance in an account (the chair mentioned roughly $80,000 in an 'Old County camp' account to help nonprofits). Supporters argued that maintaining the county’s communication tower is essential for overdose and emergency response calls.
The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by the voice tally the chair recorded: 18–4–0 in favor. Commissioners said they expect to continue reviewing allocations from opioid-settlement funds at future meetings.
