The Utah State Tax Commission convened at 11:00 a.m. on Jan. 14, 2026. Commission Chair John L. Valentine called the meeting to order and opened a public-comment period; no members of the public spoke.
The commission approved the meeting minutes from Dec. 23, 2025. Commissioner Jennifer N. Fresques moved to approve the minutes; the motion passed unanimously.
The commission considered positions on two pieces of 2025 General Session legislation. For both HB 57 and HB 77 the commission voted to make a "favorable recommendation of the parts of the bill that the Commission requested." Commissioner Rebecca L. Rockwell moved each recommendation; both motions passed on roll call votes with unanimous support from commissioners present.
Executive Director Deanna Herring thanked staff and contractors for a redesigned agency website and noted the site remains at tax.utah.gov. The meeting was adjourned at 11:16 a.m. after a motion from Commissioner John T. Deeds that passed unanimously.
