Pilot visits show strong examples of teaming, teacher leaders and MTSS in several Calvert schools

Brett Lane, the district's strategic partner, told the committee that pilot visits to Calvert Middle, Southern Middle, Mill Creek and Huntingtown Elementary revealed strong examples of team organization, frequent collaborative planning and routines teachers can articulate. "We're seeing some excellent examples and the teachers are organized in grade level or content teams," Lane said, adding that many teachers use individual prep collaboratively and that protocols guide meetings.
Lane also described leadership and MTSS findings: many schools have strong instructional leaders and emergent teacher leaders who act as conduits between grade teams and administrators, and middle and elementary schools showed foundations for MTSS including advisory or student-support periods used for targeted interventions. He and committee members noted variance across schools and cited staffing models and teacher buy-in as barriers to uniform implementation.
