Planning staff schedules Aug. 18 study session on transit-oriented communities, Sept. 15 water supply element review

Arapahoe County planning staff announced two forthcoming study sessions during the Aug. 4 meeting: Aug. 18 for rezoning and implementation work tied to transit-oriented communities, and Sept. 15 for the water supply element of the county comprehensive plan.
"Transit oriented communities is something that was enacted by the state legislature in 2024," said a staff member, summarizing House Bill 24-1313 and explaining the county must identify areas around transit stations or frequent bus corridors where the state expects increased housing density. Staff said the Aug. 18 session will review where the state-defined buffers are, how many additional housing units Arapahoe County needs to meet the statutory goal and potential rezoning options to reach the target.
Larson and staff said they have held neighborhood meetings and will present maps and detailed analyses at the Aug. 18 study session. The Sept. 15 session will focus on the water supply element and proposed comprehensive-plan amendments. No formal decisions were made at the Aug. 4 meeting; staff framed the two upcoming sessions as opportunities for public input and technical review ahead of later hearings.
