Public Health director gives measles, funding and clinic updates; short-term grant reduced

Abby Baker, director of Grand County Public Health (speaker 15), briefed the Board (sitting as the county Board of Health) on measles surveillance and department funding.
Baker said Colorado currently lists five measles cases and there had been no spread close to Grand County in the last four weeks; the closest exposure was noted at DIA. "Most recently, there was an exposure noted, at DIA," Baker said. She told commissioners that immunization remains highly effective and invited residents with exposure concerns to contact public health to review immunization records.
On funding, Baker said the state had not yet received CDC notice-of-awards for core public-health categories and that timing could slip into June or July; communications from the state do not anticipate significant funding reductions. Baker also reported on a grant application to Caring for Colorado: an initial $125,000, 18-month proposal for reproductive-health expansion was recommended by the funder to be reduced to a three-month, $30,000 planning and technical-assistance award; the department will submit a revised plan. Baker said the county received a $225,000 CDC infrastructure award in 2023 running through July 2027 and has requested an advance of the approximately $151,000 remaining award for 2025 cash flow.
Finally, Baker described a six-month trial lease of space with the Rural Health Network in Granby (about $200/month) to run a limited reproductive-health clinic and to provide a public meeting space for Grand County Advocates. Commissioners approved the Board-of-County-Commissioners action needed to change closure dates for a flooring project to the week of June 9–13.
