County reviews EMS Station 1 design, trims generator after adding batteries and solar

County project manager Jeff Hickam and design staff led a detailed workshop on the proposed EMS Station 1, showing exterior renderings, interior walkthrough videos and sample materials. The building plan includes two classroom spaces (one sized for about 100 people), a training/lobby area, a quartermaster supply room, decontamination and vehicle wash bays, and living quarters with ten bunk rooms for crews.
Hickam described an energy‑resiliency approach that reduces generator size by adding on‑site solar and battery storage: "We've changed course and we've gone to 25 kilowatts worth of panels, but 256 kilowatts worth of storage capacity," he said, noting that the battery storage will allow the county to operate much of the building on site and that this change also reduced the size and cost of the backup generator. He told commissioners the project team expects construction and occupancy by "October '26." Designers also showed options for exterior materials and a privacy screen at the crew patio; commissioners and staff discussed security fencing, access control, and training‑room rental rules for public use.
