During the consent-calendar portion of the Aug. 5 Fairfax council meeting, residents raised concerns about the town’s legal bills and the timeliness of reporting.
Public commenter Todd Greenberg urged the council to produce a consolidated monthly report of legal spending showing law firm totals, account charges, budget variances and who authorized expenditures. He said the ledger showed approximately $974,000 in attorney expenses for the fiscal year-to-date and that litigation had exceeded the adopted budget. Council members and staff explained that invoice timing and packet posting schedules mean some recent bills arrived after the published report; staff said they would incorporate late invoices into the fiscal-year closing reports and could present a consolidated view when the books are closed.
Council moved and approved the consent calendar (with two pulls for separate consideration) after discussion. Council agreed to follow up on disclosure and timing questions about legal invoices and the Sky Ranch Knoll escrow deposit referenced in the disbursement list.
