Neighbors urge Fairfax to press PG&E on Meadoway/Cascade bridge utility work and undergrounding

Multiple residents at the Aug. 5 Fairfax Town Council meeting urged the town to press PG&E and project partners to complete the Meadoway/Cascade bridge and to keep utilities underground as previously promised.
Steve and Nancy Wasserman told the council that in July PG&E installed a new, taller pole and transformer near their property without notice and that the utility may later claim lines should remain overhead because of the new pole. "We have advised PG&E numerous times that it is silly and a waste of money to put new poles up when all the utilities are going to be going underground," Steve Wasserman said. Nancy Wasserman told the council she hears every car cross the bridge and expressed concern about emergency-vehicle safety and delays to the bridge project.
Public commenters asked the council to support neighborhood welfare and to press for fire-safety measures and a swifter resolution to outstanding environmental and permitting issues. Town staff confirmed they have participated in multiple meetings with utilities and the town’s project contacts, and Council members said they would add a presentation from Ross Valley Sanitation District to a future agenda and consider appointing a liaison to follow multi-agency issues.
The council did not take immediate formal action on the Meadoway/Cascade bridge at the Aug. 5 meeting but agreed to pursue additional engagement and follow-up presentations to inform a possible liaison appointment.
