Trent Woods accepts $2,000 safety grant to buy edger attachment for mower

The Town of Trent Woods accepted a $2,000 safety grant from the North Carolina League of Municipalities at its Nov. 6 meeting to purchase an edger attachment for the town’s existing Hustler mower.
Finance Officer Brenda Reece told the board the "grant funds will be used to purchase the edger attachment for the Town’s existing Hustler mower," which the town budgeted to help finish the last miles of sidewalk in the FY 2025–2026 budget year. Reece said the attachment has a heavy-duty blade and a wider cut that will provide a cleaner, longer-lasting edge than the handheld edger currently used.
Commissioner M. Shane Turney moved to accept the grant award; Commissioner Billy Joiner seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The grant allows the town to purchase and begin using the equipment now rather than wait for the next budget cycle, and officials said the attachment will support sidewalk maintenance and town beautification.
No additional funding was requested at the meeting.
