City staff outline K‑7 corridor, rail crossing study and upcoming wastewater presentation

Planning staff and city engineers updated the commission on several ongoing infrastructure efforts and public engagement opportunities. Staff described a K‑7 corridor study led by KDOT in partnership with Spring Hill, Olathe and Johnson County that will examine intersection designs, potential signalization and overpass options; an open house is planned in Olathe.
Staff also said the city will begin a rail‑crossing study covering nine crossings and that the crossing at 175th and other locations may be considered for safety or grade‑separation projects. Public works noted a daytime closure of part of 199th Street for crossroad pipe installation with detours and an emphasis on completing work before schools reopen.
City staff announced a public presentation and hearing next Thursday on the proposed wastewater treatment plant — a required step for loan and grant applications — and said the city will also present its municipal separate storm sewer (MS4) permit and stormwater management plan for public comment. Staff invited the public to the upcoming forums and encouraged use of the interactive online materials.
