Sperling said the county contracted Murphy and Dittenhofer in 2023, solicited a survey in fall 2023 that drew more than 2,000 responses, and completed a draft in September 2024. Proposed improvements listed in the draft include renovated Bermudagrass fields, an additional synthetic turf field in the northwest, food‑truck areas, a paved walking path encircling the park, infield and dugout improvements, a pavilion, and consideration of an in‑ground skate park.
"We then solicited input from residents via survey in the fall of 20 23, and we had, more than 2,000 people who responded to that survey," Sperling said. Staff recommended that the commission direct staff to send the draft to agencies for review, schedule a public hearing for May 21, 2025, and provide 60 days' notice to adjoining jurisdictions. Commissioner (speaker 2) moved to direct staff to send the plan to agencies, schedule the May 21 hearing and provide required notices; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
The commission also discussed that part of the park in the southwestern portion is leased by the Board of County Commissioners and not included in the plan. Staff offered three options (send to agencies and set hearing; make changes then proceed; make changes and return) and commissioners directed staff to proceed with agency review and the May public hearing.
