Council approves $2,000 sponsorship for Uintah High School Grad Night

The Vernal City Council approved a $2,000 sponsorship for Uintah High School Grad Night on April 15. Organizer Jana Zufelt said the parent-run event is open to graduating seniors from Uintah High School, Terra Academy, Ashley Valley Education Center and home-school programs, and described planned entertainment, food and activities. She reported more than 100 students registered and an anticipated attendance of approximately 300.
Mayor Corey Foley and Councilmembers expressed support for the event as a safe alternative for youth, and City Manager Quinn Bennion confirmed funding was included in the Police Department budget rather than Transient Room Tax funds. Police Chief Mike Gledhill said the event helps law enforcement by providing a safe, uneventful evening. Councilmember Nick Porter moved to approve the $2,000 sponsorship; the motion passed unanimously.
