Director of Public Works Dan Gillis presented a grant-managed contract award for the airport parallel taxiway reconstruction and recommended Paulson Inc. as the low responsible bidder at $3,130,133, down from earlier estimates just under $4.4 million.
Gillis said favorable bids reduced the city's local match by roughly $153,000 compared with earlier estimates and noted that the state expects federal funding availability as early as May. "This is a really big savings, from a good bidding environment," Gillis said, noting Paulson's positive prior performance on airfield projects.
Council thanked staff for leveraging grant funds; the council approved the contract 6-0. Staff said next steps include finalizing schedule with the contractor, and construction could begin as early as summer depending on grant disbursement timing.
