City to accept pump-station safety upgrades at five stations, staff recommends consent placement

Public Works staff reported that improvements at five of the city's nine pump stations (Bond Road, Lynnhaven/Village, Liberty and the Marine Science Center) are complete or near complete. The work included manhole-safety improvements, control-protection enclosures, pump repairs, bypass installations to allow work without service interruption and a generator installation at the Marine Science Center.
"We did some improvements at 5 of our pump stations... We did at Bond Road, we did a bypass so we can actually shut the station off and do whatever work we need to do and still have that sewer flowing and running," staff said, and asked council to place the project acceptance on next week's consent agenda. Council members praised the proactive, under-budget approach and supported moving acceptance forward for formal action.
