Residents press committee to bar data centers; some argue they bring jobs

Data centers were a focus of public comment during the April 15 meeting. Amy Tighe urged Carneys Point to follow examples in other townships and enact an ordinance to disallow data centers: "we should be like Logan Twp and others who put ordinances in place to dis allow them," the minutes record. Leon Daniels also said he did not want data centers in the township.
At least one resident supported data centers as an economic opportunity. Dave Raymond said "data centers bring technology and higher wages" and suggested they could attract additional tech employers. Solicitor A. Telsey and Mayor Bomba noted that data centers are not a permitted use under current zoning and that permitting them would require use‑variance review at the Planning Board level.
