Carneys Point committee trims $1.7M to keep draft under Tax Levy Cap; budget to be introduced March 18

Mayor Bomba called the Feb. 28 Carneys Point Township Committee budget session to order and warned "the budget is underfunded." Township staff presented a revised draft that reduced spending and used surplus to blunt the tax impact.
Mrs. Ehret, the finance lead in the discussion, said the team "had to cut 1.7 million to be under the Tax Levy Cap and we did." She told the committee she also used an additional $675,000 from surplus to balance the draft and reduced the requested legal services line to $800,000. She estimated the plan would raise the tax levy by 4 1/2 cents, which she said would equal about $108.75 on an average home.
The committee agreed the Finance Office and the municipal auditor should review the numbers before the town publicly circulates them. Mrs. Ehret said the budget could be introduced at the committee meeting on March 18 with adoption planned for April 15; she noted that if a shortfall arises an emergency resolution could amend next year's budget.
The meeting ended without public comment. Mr. Brown moved to adjourn and Dr. Johnson seconded; the motion passed with five affirmative votes.
