Marketing Director Shayna Scott briefed the board on August and upcoming events — Labor Day celebration (Aug. 31), Fight Another Day benefit (Sept. 14), a BBQ cook-off (Sept. 24), C.A.S.T. for Kids (Oct. 5), and Buffalo Wallow (Nov. 9) — and listed sponsorship commitments totaling $68,500 for 2024. Scott noted coordination with media partners and sponsors, and an anticipated $25,000 pledge from Matt Witt toward a waterfall redesign.
District Manager Brandon Powell reviewed operational issues: the City of Lubbock is investigating low incoming pressure that dropped the Buffalo Springs standpipe to 81' and pressure at the site to about 35 PSI as of Aug. 8, 2024 (normal inlet pressure reported 75–95 PSI; typical standpipe level around 114'). Powell also reported progress on marina bridge pillar repairs by Digg Commercial, said TxDOT will perform an underwater inspection in September and that TxDOT funding could follow if the pillars rate the bridge in “poor condition.” Staff noted an order for eight buoys placed July 23 with estimated delivery Aug. 9, 2024, and ongoing work related to McMillan Dam surveys and maintenance projects.
