Members of the Committee on Executive Administration and Labor pressed Events DC on its role at the RFK campus. The agency said it is the administrative authority for demolition and site preparation and expects demolition work to conclude in October 2026. "We are fully responsible for the RFK Demolition that's taken place… We're slated to be done with the demolition in the fall. So October 2026," Gates said.
On financing, committee members asked whether Events DC would fund housing or commercial construction; Gates replied that the authority is not accountable for housing or retail but serves on executive and project-management committees and will participate in coordination. The agency also described a contribution of roughly $180 million to parking infrastructure for the campus and said the funding is intended to help cover part of the garages' construction costs and respond to community concerns about parking and access during events.
