Youth Council urges more glass drop-off sites and tracking pilot

Keerthana Perla and Vitalia Sun, Midvale Youth Council participants, presented a short proposal urging the City to expand glass recycling access. They told the Council that Utah is "32nd in the nation when it comes to recycling in general and the 2nd least eco-friendly state in the nation," and that Midvale currently offers only one public glass drop-off location and an underused curbside option that costs extra.
The students proposed the City work with Public Works to identify four to five high-traffic locations (such as grocery stores), coordinate pickup logistics with recyclers, and pilot usage tracking before returning with a formal proposal. Mayor Gettel and Public Works Director Glen Kennedy indicated receptiveness and noted the new transfer station will accept glass.
