Hampton student Kendall Crawley Crawford named 2012 Marshall Scholar

The Hampton City Council on Monday presented a proclamation recognizing Kendall Crawley Crawford, a Hampton University senior and Hampton High graduate, after she was selected as a 2012 Marshall Scholar. Council member Spencer read the proclamation noting Crawford's 3.9 GPA, marine environmental research in British Columbia and Tuvalu, prior work with NOAA and plans to enroll in the environment, science and society master's program at University College London.
Crawford, introduced by the council, thanked the chamber and highlighted an upcoming youth conference she is coordinating: "I am currently coordinating a retro green youth environmental conference. It'll be held April 21, it's a Saturday, at the Virginia Air and Space Museum," she said, and encouraged young people to register on the Hampton Clean City Commission website. The proclamation and remarks stressed Crawford's research, publications and awards and described the Marshall Scholarship's purpose of strengthening U.S.-U.K. ties. The council presented a framed proclamation and invited her family forward for recognition.
