Coach Jones delivered a wide-ranging presentation on the district's athletics program, describing culture changes, coaching expectations and participation numbers across sports.
"I want to develop teams that win because they compete with relentless effort," Coach Jones said, summarizing his vision for Buffalo athletics. He told trustees the district's Lone Star Cup standing improved to a tie for 72nd with 22 points after climbing 84 places from the prior year, and he provided sport-by-sport returner counts (for example, he said football will return about 20 players).
Coach Jones described new dual-credit on-ramps (University of Texas partnerships) and said the district's dual-credit bills for fall and spring ran north of $37,000 this year before discounts. He reported summer workouts average about 55 participants per day for grades 7-12 and explained plans to coach subvarsity athletes "like it's Friday night" to prepare them for higher levels.
Trustees asked about scheduling and travel; Coach Jones discussed district realignment challenges and scheduling opponents across region districts. The board acknowledged the athletic staff and booster-club support for recent events and an athletic picnic.
What's next: Coach Jones will proceed with coaching hires and program work for the 2026-27 school year and continue to report season-by-season participation data.
