Toccoa discusses booster pumps, new treatment plant and Davidson Creek dredging

Public Works and city officials identified multiple water-system needs during the Feb. 9 planning meeting. Officials said downtown Toccoa and Black Mountain areas suffer low water pressure and discussed options including installing a booster pump and a water tank tower to improve pressure.
Randy Smith reported the Water Treatment Plant is in need of replacement and Davidson Creek requires dredging because the reservoir's capacity has diminished; he said line inspection and extending the raw-water line would need to be contracted out rather than handled in-house. Smith also noted that Banks County is relocating its booster pump to the city's 12-inch main and proposed increasing wholesale water sales to make use of available capacity.
