Trustees hear about bond-site plan correction and $254,000 dirt-work change order
Summary
District staff and contractors explained a corrected site plan for a bond project entrance (50-foot buffer instead of prior 15-foot location). A contractor estimated a dirt-work change order of about $254,000 and an additional $17,500 for utilities; neighbors and trustees voiced concern about tree loss and slope impacts.

District and project staff updated the board on bond-construction site plans for a new campus entrance and parking area. Trustees were shown corrected drawings that move the buffer from an earlier 15-foot location to a 50-foot tree buffer measured from the road edge; staff said the original printed plan had the 15-foot alignment which caused on-site confusion.
A contractor told trustees the estimated change-order cost for the additional dirt work was about $254,000, and that separate utility adjustments were approximately $17,500. Several trustees and a neighbor questioned whether the district should revert to the original alignment to avoid large additional costs and the likely loss of trees on the slope. Superintendent and staff said the plan was corrected and work had already progressed in some areas; trustees discussed the tradeoffs of changing grade/slope and potential subsequent change orders affecting drainage and water lines.
No formal vote was taken on altering the plan at the meeting; staff reported the work would continue under the approved bond oversight while trustees indicated they preferred to "stay with the original plan" where feasible to avoid more expense and tree loss.
