Mayor Karen Buck said the city was awarded a $428,921.00 TDA grant for the Knittel Lift Station with a required city match of $8,579.00. The mayor told the council that initial messaging from the commissioner’s office caused confusion about coverage for multiple projects; she stated, "Only one grant for just under $500,000 has been awarded to the City of Burton from the Texas Department of Agriculture." The city secretary explained the previously filed resolution limited funds to drainage improvements; council rescinded that resolution and approved Resolution 20241008RB to add wastewater improvements to the scope and proceed with a 2025-26 TxCDBG application that could include AMKIN.
