The Burkeville ISD Board adopted a resolution directing district staff to file an application with the Texas Education Agency and the Commissioner of Education seeking a delay of certain HB 2 teacher-certification requirements for foundational curriculum courses until the 2029–2030 school year. Trustee Hicks moved the motion and Trustee Mathews seconded; the vote was unanimous (6-0-0).
The resolution describes a Plan that identifies uncertified teacher assignments for foundational courses, strategies to reduce uncertified assignments through recruitment and partnerships with Educator Preparation Programs (including iteachTexas and Region 5 TCP), supports for current uncertified teachers, annual progress monitoring, and a commitment to post the Plan on the district website. "The Board hereby approves and adopts the Plan for reducing uncertified teacher assignments and achieving full compliance with HB 2 teacher-certification requirements no later than the beginning of the 2029-2030 academic year," the resolution states.
