Parents raise discipline and communication concerns about varsity baseball

Two parents used the public‑comment period to raise concerns about communication, conduct and discipline within the Boyne City High School varsity baseball program and said they had difficulty securing meetings with the coach and athletic director.
"Communication and conduct are a few things that we have noticed," said Bridal Dunlap during public comment, describing incidents at games including throwing equipment and disrespect toward other teams. Dunlap and Dan Dunlap said they received a coach's code of conduct from the athletic director but felt it was not being applied consistently, and that progressive discipline did not appear to be enforced when repeated misconduct occurred.
Board members asked whether parents had tried to meet with the coach and AD. The parents said they had attempted several meetings; Dunlap reported being told by the athletic director that the coach would not meet with them on at least one occasion. The board chair urged the parents to try again to follow the district protocol — a meeting with the coach or teacher followed, if necessary, by escalation to the principal — and said administrators would follow up if that process failed.
The board did not take action during the meeting but said the principal and superintendent were aware of the situation and asked the parents to report back if they encountered further roadblocks.
