Council declines city-distributed pet-service coupons after vet writes off invoice

City Manager Michael Chambers reported that Rocking P Vet notified the city it had written off a $2,150 invoice related to animal vouchers and proposed ending the city voucher program in favor of discount coupons distributed directly by the clinic.
"So long story short they ended up writing off the invoice. There will no longer be a voucher system, they would like to offer discount coupons to help citizens, the owners would be fully responsible for the bill and they will hand out discount coupons," Chambers said. He presented the clinic’s approach for council consideration.
Council Member Janet Peterson-Gonzales moved that the council not approve city-distributed discount coupons; Council Member Cheryl Birdwell seconded. The minutes record the vote as five in favor and the motion passed. The clinic indicated it will provide coupons directly to pet owners rather than through the city office.
No ordinance or further funding action was recorded; the council’s vote was limited to whether the city would distribute Rocking P Vet’s coupons.
