Midvale manager: park bathrooms closing early after vandalism; staff urge official reports over social media

City Manager Matt Dahl updated the council on parks, homeless outreach and public works matters during the Sept. 16 meeting.
Dahl told the council that park bathrooms will close at 5:00 p.m. daily for the remainder of September and will be closed for the season on Sept. 30 because of repeated vandalism and graffiti; port‑a‑potties will be provided for events. He emphasized that social media posts do not substitute for official reports and said, "If there is an emergency, call 911, but if an issue requires Public Works or attention from other departments within the city, please give us a call or call the after hours on‑call number."
Dahl also described UPD’s homeless shelter resource officer program and said Midvale is seeing new transient individuals arriving from other communities, prompting plans for outreach to affected businesses. Assistant City Manager Nate Rockwood reported the Stagg Street reconstruction is on schedule and noted a new mural being painted on the Farmer and Chemist building at Main and Center streets.
Council did not take formal action on these operational items; staff will continue outreach and post updated information on the city website.
