Council Member Paul Glover presented information about a proposed property tax increase by the South Salt Lake Valley Mosquito Abatement District, which would raise district revenue by 29.09%.
Glover said the change would increase a homeowner’s district tax on a $600,000 home from $2.64 to $3.41—"which is $0.77 per year"—and would raise a business tax on the same valuation from $4.80 to $6.20 (a $1.40 annual increase). He said the district has not increased taxes since 2002 and is seeking roughly $160,000 to sustain services, integrate a black fly program, and support future capital and lab testing needs; Glover said the district needs about $100,000 for drones and data system updates.
The district has requested member communities to include the discussion on meeting agendas and will hold a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. Dec. 8 at the district office, 7308 Airport Road, West Jordan. No formal municipal action was taken by the council at the Sept. 16 meeting; council members were informed and the item was posted to alert residents to the upcoming hearing.
