Staff member Will Pierce briefed commissioners on the request by Austin Angels to rezone a former church-turned-office to allow demolition and construction of a commercial office under F4H zoning. Pierce noted the site is in a floodplain and within the historic district, and that demolition or exterior changes will require Historic Preservation Commission review.
Pierce told the commission the downtown master plan amendment is required before council may approve the rezoning and that both the plan amendment and the zoning item were scheduled for the August 20 city council meeting. With no public speakers present for the reopened hearing, a commissioner moved to recommend approval conditioned on the downtown plan amendment; the motion passed.
The commission's recommendation will be considered by the city council; staff noted no permits have been issued and no construction work has begun.
