After the regular meeting adjourned Feb. 11, Council reconvened for a budget workshop in which City Secretary Angela Harrington presented preliminary 2025-26 general and water & sewer budgets and explained deviations from the current fiscal year. The report included system metrics: water pumped this month 1,467,200 gallons; water sold 1,330,600 gallons; water loss 36,600 gallons (2.50%). The Secretary also noted two boil-water notices in January and that sewer rates will be recalculated prior to March meter reads.
Mayor Karen Buck described grant and planning activities in her report, including a GLO Teams meeting on funding for a Comprehensive Plan, a TWDB Project Information Form meeting, and coordination with the Brenham Fire Marshall about fire-code requirements the Subdivision Ordinance should address. She emphasized that the city falls under National Fire Protection Association standards and relayed program requirements: the GLO grant is reimbursable and would require the council to pass both a Comprehensive Plan and a Zoning Ordinance within 24 months of contract execution or risk recapture of funds.
