Council to start billing Friends & Neighbors for ballpark water unless agreement returned

Mayor Karen Buck reported Feb. 11 that, based on her calculations, Friends & Neighbors has received $23,541.01 worth of water from the city. The City Secretary noted that a 2003 Council decision had previously exempted Friends & Neighbors from charges for ballpark water. Councilmember Paul McLaughlin moved and Councilmember Nathan Kalkhake seconded a motion to begin charging Friends & Neighbors for water used at the ballpark if an acceptable agreement is not returned by the March 11 Council meeting; the motion passed with votes recorded FOR: Eckhardt, Gilmon, Tidwell.
Council also agreed to send certified letters to Terri Smith and Darrel Kieke informing them of the decision and the deadline. The action is conditional — charges will begin only if the group does not return an acceptable agreement by the stated date.
