Council revisits subdivision ordinance; county authority in ETJ and 2000 comprehensive plan noted

City Secretary Angela Harrington asked whether council members had reviewed the Fayetteville and Carmine subdivision ordinances and suggested clauses that could better protect property-owner rights in Burton. Harrington said these model clauses "would provide more security for the rights of property owners in Burton."
Mayor Karen Buck told council she learned an agreement in 2009 gave Washington County authority to govern subdivision development in Burton’s extraterritorial jurisdiction, and reminded members a comprehensive plan funded with more than $100,000 in 2000 recommended a subdivision ordinance, zoning and green-space walking areas that were not implemented. Utility contractor Dustin Lozano told council he had observed infrastructure benefits in neighboring towns that adopted subdivision ordinances.
Discussion was cut short when the meeting moved to an attorney appointment by Zoom; no action was taken on the revised Subdivision Ordinance at the Nov. 12 meeting.
