City Secretary Angela Harrington told council the Chamber of Commerce requested additional closures for child safety and that TxDOT advised no formal agreement is required for closures under four hours, unlike the Cotton Gin Festival. The resolution instructs use of signs and barricades, and placement of Citizens on Patrol or law enforcement at detour points.
Councilmember Macey Tidwell moved to approve the resolution, Councilmember Tommie Gilmon seconded, and the motion passed. The resolution notes the closures serve a public purpose by promoting tourism and safety.
