Hampton recognizes residents and volunteers at Spotlight on Citizens program

The City of Hampton used its Spotlight on Citizens program to recognize several local residents for community service. A separate proclamation recognized Alfred Benton 'Al' Knight for decades as a local clothier and his long service to downtown Hampton. Councilman Chris Stewart (read by Councilman Carney) recounted Knight's career, military service and business history.
Leroy Crosby was also honored for establishing computer access programs for local youth, supplying dozens of refurbished machines to community centers and partnering with the city and nonprofit organizations. Council presentations stressed Crosby's role in youth programs and civic leadership.
Speakers at the event encouraged citizen engagement and thanked Parks and Recreation and other partners for supporting the recognitions. The mayor affixed the city seal to the proclamations and presented the documents to honorees or their representatives.
