"We are expecting roughly 700 to 800 new jobs the formal training unit will bring to this installation," Bunney said, and staff said the decision would likely yield economic benefits for Hampton and the Hampton Roads region.
Bunney said city staff have worked with the base on compatibility, encroachment, and infrastructure issues and will continue to support the mission as federal processes move forward. He cautioned final basing is contingent on federal environmental and regulatory compliance and described the announcement as encouraging for regional job growth.
