Council adopts agenda, adjourns to closed session on anticipated litigation

The Chair called the special meeting of the Venetian City Council to order and asked Miss Wolf to call the roll. "Wanna call the special meeting in the Venetian City Council to order," the Chair said as the meeting began.

After a brief attendance check and noting the city manager was not present, the Chair moved to adopt the meeting agenda and a council member seconded; Miss Wolf conducted the roll call and the motion carried. The Chair then opened a public comment period and there were no speakers before the council moved on.

The council adjourned into closed session for a conference with legal counsel on anticipated litigation. The Chair described the item as "a conference with legal counsel on anticipated litigation," and stated the session would proceed pursuant to the statutory exception for anticipated litigation (Gov. Code §54956.9). The council said it would return after the closed session to report any reportable action.

The meeting packet and staff recommendation identified the closed-session item as legal strategy under the statute governing anticipated litigation; the council did not take any public actions while in open session beyond adopting the agenda and authorizing the closed-session conference.
