Commissioner David Bradford Jr. introduced a resolution recognizing the YMCA of Memphis and the Mid-South for 170 years of service; YMCA representatives described pandemic-era food and youth services and said the organization has served "over 10,500,000 meals to youth in Shelby County since 2020." The commission also honored Brenda Jones, director of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, for decades of public service; Jones thanked the commission and Mayor's Office and highlighted staff readiness during disasters.
Commissioners additionally honored Arlington Mayor Mike Wissman after he rendered first aid at a July 19 shooting at a Bartlett Walmart. The meeting included staff and commissioner tributes to each honoree.
