Commissioners pressed administration about the county's external auditor after Watkins Uiberall notified the county it could not complete the FY2025 audit. Danielle Schonbaum (deputy director, Administration & Finance) told the body the county met with Watkins Uiberall and then consulted the state; Cherry Beckert (a Nashville-based firm) was engaged as an emergency auditor with experience in government audits.
Commissioners asked for written confirmation of Watkins Uiberall's decision, a rationale beyond staffing, and a list of previous bidders and contracts; Deputy CFO Michael Thompson said the prior firm had served since approximately 2007 and that the county had intended to move to a new auditor after the five-year bid cycle. The commission voted to receive and file the May 2025 financial update (Item 9) after the exchange.
