Janie Havel, a regional representative for the Texas Film Commission, presented Garland with a Film Friendly Texas certification during the council's opening recognitions on Aug. 4.
"I am here today to recognize the city of Garland for achieving your Film Friendly Texas certification," Havel said, citing the statewide network of communities and the potential to attract production spending on catering, construction, transportation and lodging. She named local sites — Wind Surf Bay Park, Firewheel Golf Park, Duck Creek Greenbelt and Garland Downtown — as examples of locations that can be marketed to the film industry.
Mayor Dylan Hedrick thanked staff and Visit Garland for coordination. Havel said the certification joins Garland with more than 200 communities across Texas and that the Texas Film Commission estimates production activity supported billions in local spending statewide over recent years.
City officials said the designation will help promote jobs and local businesses by making it easier for production companies to work in Garland and to match local vendors with production needs.
