Council grants petition to let members participate in committees, refers zoning petitions and a dealer-license request

The Fitchburg City Council handled multiple petitions on Jan. 20. Petition 012-26, sponsored by Councilor Paul R. Beauchemin, proposed amending Section 4.6 to permit councilors to participate in committee meetings of which they are not members, with the caveat that if a quorum is present the council must post its own meeting notice. After motion and second, the council granted the petition by roll-call vote 11–0.
The council also considered Planning Board petitions to amend the zoning ordinance (items 015-26 through 017-26) related to multiple code sections, allowable hours for marijuana retail establishments (proposed change from 8 a.m.–8 p.m. to 8 a.m.–11 p.m.), and to allow certain marijuana delivery uses in Industrial and Adaptive Industrial districts. Those petitions were referred to the Planning Board with public hearings to be scheduled; several earlier petitions were given leave to withdraw.
Finally, petition 018-26 (Podium Motors, LLC) seeking a Class II Dealer’s License at 401 Summer St. was referred to Public Safety for its recommendation. The minutes record the procedural votes and referrals but do not include substantive testimony from applicants or neighborhood responses; interested parties are advised to consult the Planning Board and Public Safety Committee dockets for hearing dates and submission requirements.
