Canyon ISD board approves multiple hires, including West Plains head football coach; teacher termination authorized

The Canyon ISD Board unanimously approved multiple employment actions. A motion by Board Secretary Casey Posey, seconded by Board Member Jenni Winegarner, employed Jeff Lofton as West Plains High School Head Football Coach and Boys Athletic Coordinator for the 2026–2027 school year, subject to local salary schedule and superintendent assignment. The board also employed Jennifer Flatt as Spring Canyon Elementary principal and later approved a slate of teacher hires for the coming school year as presented by Paul Kimbrough.
In a separate personnel action the Board unanimously approved terminating the employment of Canyon Junior High School math teacher Stephen Cross, effective at the end of his probationary contract, and authorized the Superintendent to prepare and deliver notice of termination as required by Texas Education Code section 21.103. The motions listed movers and seconders and were recorded as carried with six in favor; one board member was absent.
