Red Cross shelter set up in Chelan; Douglas County begins disaster-response process

Sheriff Kelly said local officials immediately coordinated with the Red Cross after level 3 evacuations and that the Red Cross "have set up a, location here in Chelan, which is gonna be, put out publicly soon to where residents can start going to to start initiating that, disaster response." He urged affected residents to seek shelter and assistance through the announced locations once they are publicly available.
Kelly also said Douglas County commissioners and key leaders met to initiate a county-level disaster response, noting that recovery will be long-term: "It's not only gonna be it's not days, it's not weeks, it's gonna be months and even years for some of these folks." The sheriff signaled that local partners will help residents navigate insurance, immediate shelter needs, and longer-term recovery planning.
