Board recognizes two enforcement staff for 20 years of service

The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board opened its July 1 meeting by recognizing two enforcement and education staff for 20 years of public service.
Lawrence (Larry) Grant introduced a tribute for Paul, describing a career that began in military intelligence, transitioned to the state patrol and then to the agency's enforcement and education unit. A senior colleague praised Paul’s work across MIW, tobacco and cannabis enforcement and his role stepping into an office-manager hub during hiring and fiscal year closeouts. Paul responded: "I've enjoyed, overly enjoyed the the last 20 years that I've given to the state, 2 decades almost with this agency." The board chair and other members thanked Paul for his service.
Later the board recognized Captain Matt Murphy. Jennifer Dube and colleagues recounted Murphy's training, undercover work and leadership roles, noting he became a cannabis captain in 2022. Murphy said by video that he began at the Liquor Distribution Center and that "it's been a true honor to serve the people of Washington and I look forward to whatever comes next." Board members again expressed appreciation and invited staff to remain for the meeting or depart as they chose.
