Office of Planning releases Columbia Heights–Mount Pleasant public‑realm framework; committee presses agencies on implementation

Radhika Mohan, deputy director for design, development and preservation at the Office of Planning, told the committee the Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant vision framework for public‑realm design is published and that a Spanish translation "is hot off the press and on the website as of this morning." Mohan said OP will host quarterly implementation convenings with participating agencies to prioritize recommendations and to coordinate capital‑budget scheduling.
Committee members pressed OP and DLCP on operational details. Commissioners and advocates raised safety concerns about the Civic Plaza splash pad (Sherman and Miller cited at least one child injury) and asked whether DDOT’s proposed bus‑priority projects incorporate study recommendations. Mohan said DDOT participated in the study and that further coordination will occur in implementation meetings; DLCP said signage and painted designs are desirable but require funding and interagency coordination.
