The Saint Clair County Commission voted to adopt Resolution 2026-31, which sets FY27 municipal cooperative funding at $50,000 per municipality and restricts those funds to road projects, payable from the local fuel tax with required invoice documentation.
Chair read the resolution proposing the change and the commission debated timing and administrative details. "Consider adopting resolution 20 26 dash 31 a for the f y 27, municipal cooperative funding. The funding to each municipality is decreased to $50,000 each to be paid out of the local fuel tax and restricted to road projects only with supporting documentation," the Chair said as the resolution was presented on the record. Commissioners discussed whether the payout date should be August 1 or June 1; the body settled on August 1 and carried the measure with one recorded nay.
Commissioners said the change reflects a desire to tie the payments specifically to paving and road maintenance rather than broader general-fund uses. County staff will post the reimbursement process and invoice deadline so municipal clerks can account for the change in their FY27 budgets.
