Canyon Commission adopts ordinance removing single parcel from city ETJ

The City Commission on Jan. 20 adopted Ordinance No. 1245 to remove one parcel from the City of Canyon’s extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) after Planning and Development Director Dustin Meyer said staff had reviewed a landowner petition and found it sufficient. "A petition for release from the ETJ had been received for one parcel owned by Mr. W. Fireworks, Inc.," Meyer said during the presentation.
Commissioner Robyn Cranmer moved to adopt the ordinance and Mayor Pro-Tem Cody Jones seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The ordinance cites Section 42.023 of the Texas Local Government Code as the legal basis for removing property from an ETJ. The commission did not debate alternative actions; staff recommendation and the unanimous vote completed the item.
