Skokie SD 68 board adopts $57.2 million 2024–25 budget

The Skokie School District 68 Board of Education voted unanimously Sept. 19 to adopt the district's 2024–25 budget and related appropriation resolution, fixing the fiscal year from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025. Dr. Katrina Bell-Jordan moved the resolution; Maeydah Hayat seconded. The roll call recorded ayes from Bell-Jordan, Hayat, Lonigro, Ruffner, Sterbenc, Sullivan and Warshaw.
The resolution appropriated specified fund amounts, including $35,856,179 from the Educational Fund; $13,325,000 from the Capital Projects Fund; $3,229,457 from Operations and Maintenance; $2,345,000 from Debt Service; $2,131,396 from Transportation; $287,550 from the Municipal Retirement Fund (which includes $655,450 for Social Security/Medicare); and $340,000 from the Tort Immunity Fund. District staff had earlier presented the final budget adjustments, describing a $1,420,824 change from the tentative June budget tied to staffing, salary updates, enrollment-driven material needs and capital project payment schedules. Staff also reported total revenue increases of $2,324,391 (6%) and expenditure increases of $1,985,202 (4%) compared with the June tentative budget.
The board opened and closed a statutorily required public hearing on the proposed budget at the same meeting; no members of the public spoke during that hearing. The adopted budget will be filed with the district's official records as required by law and will guide spending across instruction, capital projects and operations for the coming fiscal year.
