Contracted mosquito-control operator outlines inspections, county pays under $5,000

The board introduced a visiting mosquito-control contractor during the meeting; the contractor described an inspection program that drives city streets and alleys in late June or early July to identify container-breeding mosquito sites, speak with property owners, and leave informational pamphlets or reminder sheets. "We look up over any sort of containers...a lot of mostly unrooped tires because that's a big problem," the contractor said.
Board members asked about contract terms and cost. The director reported the contract amount as "about 5,000, just under 5,000 for the contract year" and said that, given county staffing constraints, the contractor provides work the county could not fund through part-time hires. The contractor said he initially found 79 sites last year and after rechecks roughly 74% were compliant.
