Brandon Rakes, airport director for Chehalis–Centralia Airport, told the work group the airport is pursuing master-plan updates that include advanced air mobility and electrification planning. "In 2025, we started, a hydrogen multimodal hub feasibility study," he said, explaining the airport received a grant to study hydrogen fuel options and related infrastructure to position the facility as a multimodal energy hub on the I‑5 corridor.
Rakes argued that many public-use airports across the state could be electrified or adapted for alternative fuels and serve as regional multimodal nodes, and he urged the work group to include advanced air mobility and hydrogen infrastructure in the state's planning and funding conversations. The group welcomed the example as evidence that smaller airports can be leverage points for broader system resilience and decarbonization.
